We often think that talent and academic excellence are the clearest indicators of success. We assume that a child who is academically excellent will become successful in future, as though it's an automatic process. But shall I inform you that the average kid who was regarded as simply ordinary yesterday-can very well make it farther and much faster in terms of success? Wondering how?I’ll tell you. There’s a simple answer to it. Attitude. Yes, that’s right.A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E.

On a recent capacity building workshop at FlexiSAF's Head office in Abuja, Angel Investor Tomi Davies said

“In the long run, competence matters much more than attitude, and with the right attitude-you can attain any level of competence.”

And these are the ideas educators need to plant in the hearts of their wards. Parents, teachers, school administrators, let every child under your guardianship have this idea rooted in their systems. Let it form the basis for their thinking. Let them know that even though academic excellence counts a great deal, if it is coupled with a wrong attitude you can as well just make it as far as the ceiling. What The Experts SayPsychologist Carol Dweck has spent her entire career studying attitude and performance, and her latest study shows that your attitude is a better predictor of your success than your IQ.Dweck believes that students’ success depends on largely on their mindset, which forms their attitude. She coined the terms fixed and growth mindset. What About The Mindset? When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement. While those with a fixed mindset get overwhelmed by challenges and easily give up, those with a growth mindset see failure as a mere lesson and an opportunity to try harder. So, success becomes inevitable because they just NEVER GIVE UP.
