Talk-2-Me: Save the Children, Save Nigeria
Once again the streets were deserted, shops closed, sounds of sirens blowing “wiu wiu wiu”.I stood on the street, completely clueless as to what was going on. I was hungry and out of gas at home, I had just come out to look for something to soothe my wailing belly.“Get out of here! Now!” Some scary soldier in a mask yelled at me.“O...k…” I managed to say with a nod. I was so terrified. My heart was racing. I was struggling to breathe. But what was happening? What’s going on?Why is everything gone so haywire? Then it dawned on me. It was a terrorist attack. Again. On our beautiful city, In our once upon a time so peaceful country. The suicide bomber, once again was a young boy of about 12.Where do they come from? But where do they get these children from? The truth is, most of the time, on the streets. They are the out-of-school children we’ve neglected for years now. Think of it this way: These children are hungry, neglected and idle. They are ignorant and vulnerable. As it’s popularly said, the idle mind is the devil’s workshop. The more neglect they face, the more suffering they’ll inflict on us and our dear country. Unfortunately, Nigeria has the highest number of out of school children; 10.5 million to be precise, according to UNICEF records. And a whole sixty percent of them in Northern Nigeria. That’s the highest number in the world. Almost double the number in Pakistan and four times other countries. What do we do?How do we curb this problem? How do we bring an end to this? Must we wait for the government to intervene? I don’t think so, and I'm sure you can relate too.At FlexiSAF, we know that education - quality education - is power. Together, we can give out-of-school children a chance. By educating and enlightening them, we can make them feel relevant in the society and create employment opportunities for our most energetic, yet idle youth. FlexiSAF foundation is coming very soon on flexisaf.org. I look forward to hearing from those interested in partnering with us to help make quality education possible for those who need the chance.Indicate interest by filling the form below.
